Habits
What’s for breakfast?
A typical German breakfast usually consists of cold cuts, cheese, a fresh Brötchen, and a soft‑ or hard‑boiled egg. Some people just eat Müsli with yogurt or milk.
The vowels they are a‑changin’
Some verbs change their vowel before adding the ending. Luckily, this only happens in the du and er / sie / es forms!
ich | esse |
du | isst |
er / sie / es | isst |
The verb stem ess changes to iss for the du and er/sie/es form, and only for those forms.
If you like it, then you shoulda put an s on it!
You can add an ‑s to say I eat in the evening. In German, it’s more like I eat evenings!
Sie essen morgens eine Banane.
They eat a banana in the mornings.
Ich koche abends.
I cook in the evenings.
Best Freundin‑nen forever!
It’s one Freundin, but two Freundinnen. That n doubles up for all feminine ‑in nouns!
eine Partnerin, zwei Partnerinnen
a partner, two partners
eine Studentin, zwei Studentinnen
a student, two students
