Let's talk about the Subjunctive!
To form the past subjunctive, take the ‑ron off the ellos form of the preterite, and add these endings!
| que yo | hiciera |
| que tú | hicieras |
| que él / ella / usted | hiciera |
| que nosotros / nosotras | hiciéramos |
| que ellos / ellas / ustedes | hicieran |
Notice how verbs that are irregular in the preterite look similar in the past subjunctive!
ir, ellos fueron, que yo fuera
tener, ellas tuvieron, que tu tuvieras
venir, ellos vinieron, que ella viniera
decir, ellas dijeron, que ellos dijeran
You'll need to use the past form of the subjunctive if you wanted or hoped for people to do something in the past.
Quería que tú dijeras algo.
