Let's get bossy! Drop the ‑s from the normal tú verb form to tell someone what to do.
Tú hablas.
You (informal) speak.
Gloria, ¡habla en español!
Gloria, speak in Spanish!
Tú abres.
You (informal) open.
¡Hijo, abre los regalos!
Son, open the presents!
In formal situations, you do things a little differently. You swap out the normal usted vowel ending. Basically, if there’s normally an ‑e, use an ‑a. And if there’s usually an ‑a, it'll turn into an ‑e!
Usted prueba.
You (formal) try.
Señor, pruebe este vino tinto.
Sir, try this red wine.
Usted escribe.
You (formal) write.
Escriba con este bolígrafo, por favor.
Write with this pen, please.
Usted vuelve.
You (formal) come back.
Señora, vuelva a las nueve.
Ma’am, come back at nine.
