Good news! In the imperfect, estar follows the usual pattern you are already familiar with.

Enojado vs. enfadado
Grrrr! Enojado and enfadado both mean angry.
But while enojado is more common in Latin America, enfadado is used more often in Spain.
El hombre estaba enojado.
The man was angry.
