No more silence!
A lot of consonants at the end of French words are silent. But if the next word begins with a vowel or a silent h, it is silent no more!

Notice how the s sounds like a z, while the d sounds like a t.
There are exceptions! For example, the t in et is never pronounced.
Je pars et il arrive.
I leave and he arrives.
