Are we there yet?
To say something is a certain distance away, use à + distance + de. You also use this pattern to say something is to the south, north, east, or west!
L'hôtel est à cinq kilomètres du musée.
The hotel is five kilometers from the museum.
Mon bureau est au sud de Paris.
My office is south of Paris.
I'm sur it was on this street...
In French, you'll use sur to say that a place is on the avenue or on the square.
L'hôtel est sur l'avenue du Général de Gaulle.
The hotel is on the Général de Gaulle avenue.
Le magasin est sur la place Louis XV.
The store is on the Louis XV square.
But when talking about a rue, you should just say the street name.
Le restaurant est rue des Rosées.
The restaurant is on the Rosées street.
Les arrondissements
Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements, each with its own character, monuments, and charm! You can often just say which arrondissement something is in.
Le Louvre est dans le premier arrondissement.
The Louvre is in the first arrondissement.
La tour Eiffel est dans le septième arrondissement.
The Eiffel tower is in the seventh arrondissement.
