In English we say my mother and my father. In French you'd say monpère and mamère, because words like my and your change based on the gender of the word after them!

Fille and femme
Fille can mean either girl or daughter. Femme can mean woman or wife. Just pay attention to the context to figure out which one someone means!

My wife's name is Alice.
Whose kid is this?
In English, we say Marie'scat. But in French, you'd switch the word order and say le chatdeMarie.
