Loro sono artisti
We've seen that nouns that end in ‑o (like ragazzo) are usually masculine, and nouns that end in ‑a (like ragazza) are usually feminine. But there are exceptions! Some words end in ‑a, but can be either masculine or feminine.
Lui è un artista italiano.
He is an Italian artist.
Lei è un'artista impegnata nel teatro.
She is an artist involved in the theater.
Most nouns that describe professions and end in ‑ista (like musicista and dentista) will be like this.
È la mia cultura
Are you crazy about Italian art? Many nouns that end in ‑ture in English are very similar in Italian.
Sono entrambi importanti esempi di architettura moderna.
They are both important examples of modern architecture.
È la mia cultura.
It is my culture.
These words are usually feminine.
Ti piace la letteratura francese?
Do you like French literature?
Ti piace l'arte?
In English, we say I like art, but in Italian, you'd say Mi piace l'arte, which literally means To me art is pleasing.
Mi piace l'architettura moderna.
I like modern architecture.
Ti piace la musica clasica?
Do you like classical music?
If what you like is a plural word, use piacciono instead of piace.
Mi piacciono queste canzoni.
I like these songs.
Le piacciono i romanzi italiani.
She likes Italian novels.
