To ask for permission to do something in Japanese, you put the

form
and add

at the end of the sentence.

Rules are rules!
Sometimes, you just need to tell people what they can or can't do. To say someone can't do something, use the
て
form and add
はいけません
.
テストでは教科書を見
てはいけません
。
(You) cannot look at the textbook during the exam.
ほかの学生のテストを見
てはいけません
。
(You) cannot look at another student’s test.
