Where are we?
In Japanese, most question words come right before ですか [desu ka]. Compare the following questions:
ホテルはここですか。
[hoteru wa koko desu ka]
Is the hotel here?
ホテルはどこですか。
[hoteru wa doko desu ka]
Where's the hotel?
Remember that words like hotel in Japanese can be translated as hotel, a hotel, or the hotel depending on the context!
