Adjectives I

A little girl
Unlike in English, adjectives in Portuguese usually come after the noun they’re describing.
uma menina pequena
a little girl (lit.: a girl little)
uma casa nova
a new house (lit.: a house new)
Sour grapes
You've probably noticed that in Portuguese all nouns are feminine or masculine.
Well, adjectives change form according to the gender of the noun they’re describing.
FemineMasculine:

uma gata pequenaum gato pequeno
uma uva azedaum suco azedo
uma batata fritaum ovo frito
Grande homem ou homem grande?
A few adjectives like grande can change their meaning depending on whether they come before or after the noun!
um homem grande
a big man
um grande homem
a great man
um homem novo
a young man
um novo homem
a new man
