All these flavors!
When you get the chance to try food in Portuguese‑speaking countries, you’re going to want to try every flavor! You can use the word de to specify flavor or kind of food.
Ele gosta de biscoito de chocolate.​
He likes chocolate cookies.
Ela bebe leite de vaca.
She drinks cow’s milk.
A glass of water
You can also use de when you are talking about a drink in a copo, xícara or garrafa.
Uma xícara de chá, por favor.
A cup of tea, please.
And you can also use com for drinks!

I like you!
Sometimes verbs get extra little words, like when you’re specifying who you’re talking about or thinking of.
Nós falamos de você.
We talk about you.
But English and Portuguese don’t always use these extra little words in the exact same places! That's what happens with gostar and precisar.
Eles gostam de café.
They like coffee.
Você precisa de um gato.​
You need a cat.
