Remember: a in Portuguese means the. Don’t get confused!

Você, ele e ela
Let’s learn a bit more about how verbs change in Portuguese! If you are using ele, ela or você, and the verb ends in ‑er (like escrever and comer), you only need to get rid of the final ‑r.
Ela escreve um livro.
She writes a book.
Você come o pão.
You eat the bread.
You generally use você when you're talking directly to another person. This is a polite way to say you in most situations. In some places, you might also hear tu — we'll talk a little more about this later on.
Sou um homem e ela é uma mulher
Portuguese has some very special verbs that change a lot!
ser → Eu sou um homem. / Ela é uma mulher.
ter → Eu tenho um carro. / Ele tem um carro.
ler → Eu leio um livro. / Você lê um livro.
ter → Eu tenho um carro. / Ele tem um carro.
ler → Eu leio um livro. / Você lê um livro.
