Small change, big difference
Be careful not to mix up the words below. They sound very similar, but they have completely different meanings!
avô vs. avó
vô vs. vó
e vs. o
bebê vs. bebe
Protip: in bebê the second bê is stressed, while for bebe, the first be is stressed.

Most people in Portuguese‑speaking countries have more than one last name, since they take family names from both parents. The mother's family name comes first, and then the father's.
Some people even have middle names, so don't be surprised to meet Portuguese speakers that have four or more names!
