We the people
You can use nós or a gente to say we in Portuguese.
A gente literally means the people. It’s the one you’ll hear the most in Brazil.
Nós cortamos batatas.
We cut potatoes.
Nós comemos carne.
We eat meat.
A gente corta batatas.
We cut potatoes.
A gente come carne.
We eat meat.
Did you notice? A gente uses the same verb form as ele, ela and você.
The sounds of G
Let’s look at another letter with two different sounds! In Portuguese, the letter g usually sounds like the g in get.
However, when it comes before e or i, g sounds like the s in pleasure.
