在 (zài) for Location
To talk about where someone or something is located, use (zài).
伦敦不美国。
(Lúndūn bú zài měiguó.) London isn’t in the USA.
他们学校。
(Tāmen zài xuéxiào.) They are at the school.
(zài) can also be used after certain verbs to tell where the action is taking place.
学生住加拿大。
(Xuéshēng zhù zài Jiānádà.) The student lives in Canada.
你住中国吗?
(Nǐ zhù zài Zhōngguò ma?) Do you live in China?
哪儿 (nǎr) to ask Where?
哪儿 (nǎr) is used to ask where questions or to ask about places.
你在哪儿
(Nǐ zài nǎr?) Where are you?
她的家在哪儿
(Tā de jiā zài nǎr?) Where is her home?
