Why?
To ask why questions, place 为什么 (wèishénme, why) before or after the person the question is about.
Before
为什么你想去西班牙？
(Wèishénme nǐ xiǎng qù Xībānyá?) Why do you want to go to Spain?
After
你为什么学习中文？
(Nǐ wèishénme xuéxí Zhōngwén?) Why are you learning Chinese?
因为 (yīnwèi, because) vs. 所以 (suóyǐ, so)
In English we might say Because I’m going to China, I’m learning Chinese or I’m going to China, so I’m learning Chinese. Either of these is okay if you’re speaking Chinese in an informal setting; for example, you can choose to use either 因为 (yīnwèi, because) or 所以 (suóyǐ, so).
Informal Settings
因为这个太贵，我不买。
(Yīnwèi zhège tài guì, wǒ bú mǎi.) Because this is too expensive, I won’t buy it.
我要去中国，所以我学习中文。
(Wǒ yào qù Zhōngguó, suóyǐ wǒ xuéxí Zhōngwén.) I want to go to China, so I’m learning Chinese.
But! In more formal settings, you should use both 因为 (yīnwèi, because) and 所以 (suóyǐ, so).
Formal Settings
因为这个太贵，所以我不买。
Yīnwèi zhège tài guì, suóyǐ wǒ bú mǎi.) Because this is too expensive, (so) I won’t buy it.
因为我要去中国，所以我学习中文。
(Yīnwèi wǒ yào qù Zhōngguó, suóyǐ wǒ xuéxí Zhōngwén.) (Because) I want to go to to China, so I’m learning Chinese.
