There is/are
To say that there is / are something at a certain location, you can add (yǒu, has/have) after the location. To say something is not there, use 没有 (méiyǒu, does/do not have).
树上六只鸟。
(Shù shàng yǒu liù zhī niǎo.) There are six birds in the tree.
车里一只狗。
(Chē lǐ yǒu yì zhī gǒu.) There is a dog in the car.
办公室里没有人。
(Bàngōngshì lǐ méiyǒu rén.) There are no people in the office.

(běn), for objects like books and magazines
(jiú běn shū) nine books

(zhāng), for some flat objects, like papers and tables
桌子
(yì zhāng zhuōzi) one table

(zhī), for some animals, including cats, dogs, and birds
