Introductions
The word (gěi) often acts like the word to in English. We’ve seen it already in the phrase to call someone.
(Wǒ huì gěi nǐ dǎ diànhuà.) Literal: I will make a phone call to you.
Now you can use (gěi) to make introductions!
(Wǒ gěi nǐ jièshào, zhè shì wǒ zuì hǎo de péngyǒu.) Let me introduce you to my best friend. Literal: I (will) introduce (to) you; this is my best friend.
(Nǐ de péngyǒu hěn shuài, kěyǐ gěi wǒ jièshào ma?) Your friend is handsome. Can you introduce (him) to me?
不但 (bùdàn, not only) and 而且 (érqiě, but also)
To say someone is not only smart, but also beautiful, we can use 不但 (búdàn, not only) and 而且 (érqiě, but also).
(Tā búdàn cōngmíng, érqiě piàoliang.) She is not only smart, but also beautiful.
(Wǒ de dìdi búdàn gāo, érqiě hěn shuài. ) My younger brother is not only tall, but also good‑looking.
